Hello all,
I'm officially back from maternity leave, and although I miss my little girls, it's so great seeing everyone!
Currently I'm working on building the mentoring program here at EMES.  We have staff, middle and high school students as well as community folks hanging out with kiddos once a week for a half an hour.  It's SO wonderful to see kids light up when they see their mentor come to spend time with them!  If you would like your child to participate, or maybe you yourself would like to be a mentor, please contact me as soon as possible.  Also, if you have anything to donate to the mentor program (legos, games, etc.) that would be great!
Next week I will be back in classes teaching!  We will start with the wonderful "bucket filling"activities.  Every year, at all levels I read the book, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud.  The idea is that everyone has an invisible bucket (even you;) and that you can either dip into or fill other people's buckets by what you say and do.  We all use the same language to help kids articulate when other's are dipping into their buckets.  At the end of the book, we all fill everyone's "bucket" in the classroom. Talk with your child(ren) about their bucket, and how it was filled today, or what they could do to fill it!
Happy bucket filling!!!
